Make Your Bedroom Interior Feel Warmer Leading Up to Summer

Make Your Bedroom Interior Feel Warmer Leading Up to Summer

Are you feeling the cold and counting down the days until summer? You might be surprised to hear how making some small (or big) changes to the interior of your bedroom can make you feel that little bit warmer and more summery. The first step is to identify your bedroom’s natural daylight; south and west-facing rooms will receive warm light during the day, whereas east and north-facing will have less natural light. These bedrooms will benefit the most from using more saturated, warm colours for accessories and furniture to make up for the lack of sunlight.

We’ve put together some of our best interior design tips to help you warm up your bedroom and get ready for summer.

Don’t be afraid of white on white

Surprisingly, white can be a great foundation for you to create a cosy bedroom. With white walls and furniture, the warmer elements can come from adding accessories such as colourful blankets, thick curtains or warm pillows. White also helps to brighten up a space, especially if there is a lot of natural light to bounce off it.

Use warm colours for wardrobes and accessories

There are many colour combinations that make a bedroom feel like a cosy retreat, but warm colours, such as orange, yellow, red, purple and brown can all make a stylish, colourful statement while also establishing a really snug atmosphere. These colours don’t have to be really bright and saturated, more subtle and pastel colours such as beige, can also create a cosy, warm atmosphere.

Add in warm natural textures and materials

Wood, linen, rattan, wicker, stone, wool: these are all materials that exude warmth so dot them around your room to make your bedroom feel cosy. Using a natural wood finish for furniture creates a more outdoorsy atmosphere, great for feeling more summery.

Opt for warm lamps and light features

A great design tip to make your bedroom feel cosy is to add in elements of soft lighting like lamps. Choose soft or deep, dark colours for your light shades but make sure that the actual bulb itself isn’t harsh. Soft, warm lighting equals cosy vibes.

Minimalism is key to cosiness

Too many elements such as tables and bookshelves can make a room feel busy and cluttered. Opt for smarter storage with a simple design to make you feel relaxed and ready to wind down. A clear space is a clear mind.

Important Tips for Designing Your Kitchen

Important Tips for Designing Your Kitchen

When it comes to designing your new kitchen, there are a lot of things to consider. A kitchen is a place not only for cooking but for socialising and relaxing too. There is a lot to consider when designing the layout of your kitchen. Walkway width, appliance space and even decoration! Our guide will list some important tips for designing your new kitchen.

Attention-Grabbers

It is important to have a common theme or focal point in your kitchen design. Whether you choose to have colourful cabinets, unique door handles, or eye-catching backsplash tiles. These are all options to make your kitchen your own and give you the chance to complement these features with decorations and accessories!

Organisation

If you have lots of spice jars or baking ingredients in your cupboard, then plan for keeping them neat and tidy! Have a fitted spice rack on the inside of your cabinet, or use dividers to keep your ingredients tidy. This will also stop your cabinets from getting any stains or crumbs!

Kitchen Island

Will your island be used as a preparation space or more of a socialising place? If you’ll be preparing food on it or using it as extra counter space, consider having a sink or including drawers on the island for extra storage. If you’d prefer to use your kitchen island as a space to entertain and socialise, install warm lighting above it and have a wine rack or cooler installed in the base.

Appliances

Perhaps one of the most important tips to consider when planning a new kitchen is your appliances. If you have a large family, think about whether you need more than one oven. Most ovens/hobs come with either four or six cooking rings, but if you’re a bit of a connoisseur in the kitchen, you might want additional types such as a wok ring or a top-grill. As well as a kettle, you might also want a coffee machine that matches your kitchen’s colour scheme. If the kids like to snack after school, but you don’t want them going through the cupboards or near any hot appliances, consider a mini-fridge!

Skipping Steps

Imagine waking up first thing in the morning, you switch on the kettle, but then all of your mugs and teabags are in a cupboard on the other side of the kitchen! Have your mugs hanging or stored near the kettle/coffee maker, and all other ingredients such as coffee grounds, tea bags, sugar and teaspoons in one area of the kitchen. It might seem trivial, but you will thank yourself later when you’re half-awake and need a quick caffeine fix. Convenience is king!

Cut Cleaning Time

There are decisions you can make when it comes to the worktops, appliances and more that will make cleaning your kitchen so much easier. For example, under-mounted sinks won’t have a rim that will usually catch crumbs and dirt. Choose a fridge with glass shelves rather than wire shelves so that any spillage doesn’t go over any food underneath and instead can be wiped up instantly.

Counter Tops

Choosing your countertops is another thing to consider before going ahead with your kitchen design. Matte counters can be easier to clean than glossy ones, and won’t show any cleaning streak marks or dust. Choosing lighter colours rather than dark is also beneficial, as you will be able to see any crumbs or spillage easier. This will also make your kitchen look lighter, airy, and more spacious than dark counters and cabinets.

We hope some of these tips will guide you when designing your new kitchen! If you visit our showroom, we can also offer advice on how to get the best out of your design. If you’re ready to get started, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Storage Solutions to Make Your Home Organised

Storage Solutions to Make Your Home Organised

Nobody likes to live in a cluttered house. The organisation is a vital part of creating a comfortable and tidy home. In this guide, we’ll be giving you some storage solution tips to make your home organised.

Investing in built-in storage solutions

Built-in storage can obviously be a more attractive option than using plastic storage boxes and baskets, but it can be more expensive. Investing in built-in furniture, however, is better for your home in the long term and is customisable to your needs and lifestyle. Whether you need more drawers or clothing rails, we can create a bespoke wardrobe for you.

Bench seating

Shoe racks can be a thing of the past with this clever storage solution! As well as being a seating option, an indoor can add decorative value to empty areas of your home. Commonly used in hallways or bedrooms, you can store items such as shoes or blankets inside the bench. Indoor benches can come in all shapes and sizes, from single-seater to longer benches for family homes.

Hooks

Hooks are always an inexpensive option, whether you choose to have a coat rack in your porch area or hooks on the back of a door. They’re great if you don’t want to take up all your wardrobe space with coats and jackets. You can get creative by choosing different coat pegs. From woodland-themed for your country-style home or DIY pegs to fit your shabby-chic style.

Saying no to junk drawers

We’re all guilty of having a junk drawer or two in the house – and it’s absolutely fine to have one! One of the best storage solutions to make your home more organised is to limit yourself to having one junk drawer. Then make sure everything else has a home. You can even make your junk drawer tidy by using dividers or organisers so that you can find everything easier.

Giving everything a home

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but everything should have its place. Clothes in the wardrobe, shoes stored away in a bench or on a shoe rack, and any bedding and towels folded away in your airing cupboard. Keys are one of the most common items to get lost if you’re someone who tends to throw things down and find them later. The best way to change this is to have a key hook near your door, so they get put away as soon as you get home. Be careful not to place them in areas where they can be seen by potential burglars such as near doors and windows. You can also use a key bowl if you’d prefer not to hang up key hooks.

A Guide to Bedroom Colour Schemes

A Guide to Bedroom Colour Schemes

Colour can affect our mood and our happiness, so naturally, it’s important that the room we sleep in is decorated or painted using colours we find relaxing or enjoyable.

Of course, it’s ultimately down to you on how you’d like to decorate your space, but we hope you’ll find this bedroom colour scheme guide useful!

Terracotta

We think terracotta is a very underrated colour! It’s not just for plant pots and tableware, it can be brilliant to accessorise with. Try breaking up the deepness of the terracotta with whites and creams to create a balanced colour scheme. It works well with minimalistic decor, as well as a more rustic and natural interior.

Green

Green is a great choice for bedding, decor and paintwork. Whether you want a darker, bolder green as a feature wall or a softer, cosier green all over, it gives a calming feel and calls back to nature. Woody and earthy tones & nature-inspired decor complete this colour scheme.

Pink

Many people back away from this colour due to its youthfulness or fear it may be too garish. Don’t fear! Pastel pinks can bring a feminine and soft feel to a room, while blush pink is great if you have a neutral canvas you’d like to add some pop to.

White & Cream

If you’d rather use white & cream, it’s a great neutral and relaxing colour to use as a base or as a wall colour. It’s great to create a clean and comfy atmosphere in a room and is perfect in master bedrooms. You can use pops of colour to add a bit of energy to your space, and if your room feels too empty or ‘clinical’, you can add pillows, rugs, blankets and art to add a more comfortable, homely feel.

Blue

Darker blues are great for accessorising or as a statement wall, while soft blues work to create a calming and mellow room. White, green and light greys are brilliant complementary colours to use with blue, such as on bed sets, photo frames and ornaments.

Orange & Yellow

You might think that bright colours like orange and yellow would be too overbearing or uncomfortable in a room but used in the right way they can be perfect and create a happy, sunshine feel to a room. Brighter yellows & oranges should be limited to one or two items like wall art or a feature wall, but calmer yellows & oranges such as pale yellow, apricot, sand and peach can be used to decorate your bed, walls and other accessories like throws and cushions.

Our top tip is to use a colour swatch book and compare any desired colours to your room to see what goes and what doesn’t.

We hope this colour scheme guide helped! Here at Made Interiors, we can also offer advice on how your fitted furniture can complement your space, whether you have already decorated or plan to after installation. How to Design the Perfect Vanity Table

How to Design the Perfect Vanity Table

What do you use your vanity table for? Whether it’s getting ready for a night out, for your skincare ritual or just as a decorative addition to your space. This guide will help you to design the perfect vanity table and how to make it work for you!

Storage

Drawers and shelving are paramount to keeping your vanity table clutter-free and looking good. Whether you need to store lots of face creams or hair accessories, you’ll want plenty of drawers or shelves to keep them on. Not only does it keep the main surface looking tidy and easier to clean, but it gives you more space to get comfortable and avoid feeling cramped!

Lighting

You’d be surprised how deceiving an overhead light can be when looking at your facial features! If you use your vanity table for applying makeup, you’ll need soft ample lighting that illuminates your whole face. LED lights are the most energy-efficient and greenest option to have installed, and there are lots of mirror options that have LED lights already installed inside.

Space

If you have enough room to allow for more, don’t settle for a tiny vanity! You’ll always be more comfortable having more space to spread out. As a general guide, the perfect size table is one where you can have both elbows rested with your arms positioned at a 45º angle, with enough depth for your arms to be positioned at 90º without your hands or fingers being pushed up against the back.

Seating

No matter how long you spend at your vanity table, it’s always a good idea to make sure the seat is comfy! If you use your vanity more often, it would be worth investing in a comfier, upholstered chair with a cushion. However, if you only use your vanity for a few minutes a day, you might just want to have a stool there.

If you enjoy a bit of DIY, you could experiment with personalising your vanity stool by painting it your favourite colour or adding a seat cushion by tying or pinning it.

Creating a Relaxing Sleeping Space

Creating a Relaxing Sleeping Space

According to 2021 statistics, 36% of UK adults struggle to fall asleep at least once a week. If so many of us find it hard to switch off before we fall asleep, what can we do to improve this? Well, luckily we have a few helpful tips to help you create a relaxing sleeping space, so you can get that well-deserved good night’s sleep!

Darkness

Unless you’re not a fan of the dark, it’s a good idea to make sure you sleep in complete darkness to help your brain switch off.
We’d recommend you invest in some blackout blinds or curtains to block out any light coming in from your windows. This would be especially helpful if you have any street lights directly outside your home.
If you prefer to have a nightlight in your room, perhaps find one that has a dimmable feature, so you can have it to a brightness that’s comfortable for you and that will also allow you to fall asleep easily. Warmer light also creates a more cosy and relaxing atmosphere, consider a Himalayan Salt Lamp for the added health benefits.

Ditch the Electronics!

According to The Sleep Foundation, watching TV before you go to bed negatively impacts your quality of sleep. Your exposure to blue light before you sleep (which comes from most phones, tablets, computers and televisions) affects your circadian rhythm, which is the internal process in everyone’s body that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. If you need any devices in your room before bed (i.e. your phone for your alarm in the morning), keep it out of arm’s reach and avoid using it for an hour before bedtime.
Instead of browsing social media before bed, read a book, soak in the bath or participate in a nighttime yoga or meditation class.

Noise

We can’t always control outside noise that might disturb our sleep, however, there are ways to block this out! Whether you’d prefer to create white noise by having a fan on during the night or wearing earbuds to block out the noise, all we recommend is to do whatever makes you comfortable!

Your Bed & Mattress

If your mattress is lumpy, torn or if you wake up feeling sore, it’s probably time to buy a new mattress! Mattresses are made to last for up to 10 years, and they can be quite pricey. However, you have to remember that we spend almost 1/3 of our lives asleep, so a good mattress is an investment for better sleep.
Although online shopping seems like the future, we’d still recommend doing physical bed shopping. Go and lie down on various mattresses at your local mattress retailer and see which one fits you best!
Also, if you find yourself fluffing up your pillows during the night or your head doesn’t feel comfortable when you’re asleep, it’s time to buy some new pillows too!

Colours & Decor

Neutral colours and soft furnishings on your bed and in the bedroom can help you feel more comfortable and relaxed. Blue and green have also been suggested as more calming colours, so consider adding these to your sleeping space. If you need some more guidance, check out our blog on bedroom colour schemes.

Decorating your bed with extra cushions and throws can make it a more comfortable space for relaxing as well as sleeping. If you like the way your bed looks, you’re bound to feel more comfortable falling asleep in it!

Reduce Clutter!

Our stress levels are very easily affected by mess and untidy spaces, especially in rooms where we’re meant to relax and unwind! Make it a habit of putting dirty clothes in your laundry hamper and putting clean clothes away in your wardrobe, so they’re not piling up in your bedroom. If you’re struggling for wardrobe or storage space, we can help by creating made-to-measure wardrobes to fit your bedroom, and help you to organise your sleeping space.
Make sure any drinks glasses next to your bed don’t pile up, and if you can, avoid eating in your room so dirty plates or food debris don’t start appearing. While odour doesn’t usually wake us from sleep, it can make it much harder to relax if you can still smell your dinner while in bed!
